I could have sworn I installed MiniBin correctly for portable use, however months later I saw it created a Start Menu folder. Nothing in the registry, however so it could just be a mistake on my end.

It does not use the system cache, so other processes do not get bogged down during the copy process and a speed setting is also available, including pause. It supports Unix-style include/exclude wildcards filters.

this is indeed a very robust renamer!

im torn between this and Advanced Renamer :(
http://www.portablefreeware.com./index.php?id=1848

both are great, coming from payware 'Better File Renamer', both these freeware offer every naming scheme/option!

this seems to provide more support for multi-languages.
i will probably make the switch to this.

great add.!

Magibon on 2011-03-10 01:41

i take that back, i just tried using this and im disappointed in the interface.

sadly, the abundance of features make it very difficult to use.

im sticking with Advanced Renamer, while it doesn't provide support for multilanguages, it's interface is much more user-friendly. simplicity and ease of use for me is important.

i'll use this only when required for multilanguages, but for everyday usage, im sticking with Advanced Renamer.

I tried to use latest zip (8.4), could not do anything. There was no option to add rules. May be something is wrong with the UI or it does not support Windows 8.1 N version.

Anyone know security-wise if this is still worth using? It's now been more than two years without an update and I wonder what the risk to using it is, vs say Adobe Reader with its never-ending vulnerabilities.

webfork on 2017-11-19 18:17

@Specular: I think if you're asking a question like that, it's probably wise to use an updated viewer. There have been a few PDF vulnerabilities over the past year, but I think you have to enable various Adobe-only extras that I don't think STDU has in it's program.

The new "flat" design with similar monochrome icons is a step back in usability. Normal appearance, apart from grouping of toolbar buttons, can be restored under Configuration -> Layout.

The program is a good tool for trimming old MP3 encodes without incurring further quality loss. Glitches are avoided if the MP3 is upconverted to 320 kbit beforehand with MP3Packer.

I wish it also supported common simple video soundtrack formats.

So lucky to have this. My Lenovo machine has poor volume control buttons that frequently ignore input depending on what application is in focus. Volumouse meanwhile doesn't care: I have the left button + scroll wheel mapped to slowing increasing/decreasing the sound and the right button + scroll wheel mapped to mute and un-mute. Just excellent.

Especially like that it only takes up a little over a meg of RAM.

Thanks to the author.

bankr on 2013-10-04 18:05

Despite being very handy Volumouse lacks very important feature for me - preset volume levels. I need 11 of them - 1 (100%), 1/2 (50%), 1/2^2 (25%), ..., 1/2^9 (0.195%) and 0. Now I found Volume2. Don't sure whether it can be completely registry-stealth or not (uses HKCU/Run for autorun), at least it saves Config.ini to its folder.
Goodbye Volumouse.
P.S. Still using NirCmd "nircmdc setsysvolume xxxxx" by lnk-files in start-programs menu for setting volume w/o mouse.

@Cattleya: Make sure you download the zip package, because the installer does the following:
"The kernel mode driver used by CPU-Z is installed on the system, that avoids to install / remove it at every run."
The portable version leaves no driver behind, just tested it.

@kc: I used to do sysadmin for a small non-profit org. 7 pc's and 2 printers, no big deal. I carried all my tools on a pendrive. Off course I had admin-rights, but this is a typical scenario a lot of us are in, so it's not entirely useless, portable is the way to go for sysadmins ;)

kleinkinstein on 2014-03-22 13:09

CPUZ is old, tired and practically useless. It's heyday was about six years ago. Speccy is a must for today.

appsuser on 2019-09-03 23:47

The customized versions for different board manufacturers (on the home page) are also portable (download the zip package). The customized versions include the manufacturer's logo as a window background and theme.

I'm a bit irritated by this, and a number of other recent programs, where the '64-bit' version downloads a zip file with 'x64' in the filename, however the executable contained within doesn't have 'x64' in the filename, but has the same name as the 32-bit version. Is the executable file within 32-bit, or 64-bit?

dany on 2012-01-23 18:09

@AdrianK_IT
64-bit. Unless the developer screwed up when uploading the latest package :P
If you're unsure, then use Process Explorer and under View -> Columns make sure Image Type is checked. It will show you the bitness of an application.
Another alternative is GNUWin's file utility at http://sourceforge.net/projects/gnuwin32/files/file/5.03/
I'm not sure about portability though (Cygwin stuff...) and am currently not in the position to test.

lautrepay on 2012-01-23 20:28

@AdrianK_IT & dany: The easiest way is analysing the file with PeStudio (http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=1950).
And the "64-bit" version of BulletsPassView is 64-bit.

Double-clicking the program icon "empties" the coffee pot and temporarily disables the program, while doing this a second time re-enables it.
